PPGPL / PETROTRIN Sign ISOBUTANE Agreement

It is PPGPL’s vision to become the number one NGL business in the Americas by 2020, number one in profitability, efficiency, customer service, quality and safety.

The Petrotrin Isobutane Project has a strong strategic fit with this core business, is consistent with PPGPL’s stated vision and is in keeping with government’s thrust towards the establishment of new downstream industries in the natural gas sector. It also leverages PPGPL’s core competence in gas processing and marketing of the resultant NGLs.

This project entails the splitting of approximately 7,000 bpd of mixed butane into its components, isobutane and normal butane, with the construction of a butane splitting plant. From this plant 3,500 bpd of isobutane will be supplied via pipeline to Petrotrin to be utilized as feedstock to its new alkylation unit, now under development. Petrotrin’s alkylation unit is a part of a larger Petrotrin gasoline optimization program which enables the supply of more environmentally friendly fuel to the local market and is of critical importance to Petrotrin’s access to international markets.

The normal butane produced by the butane splitter is a key feedstock for downstream industries. Government has initiated discussions with Isegen, a diversified food acids manufacturer, for development of a Maleic Anhydride and food acid plant at Point Lisas. PPGPL stands ready to provide a feedstock to this facility which is consistent with government’s vision to facilitate diversification of the natural gas sector by promoting downstream industries.
