PHOENIX GAS & HABITAT FOR HUMANITY DELIVER HOUSES TO NEEDY FAMILIES

Two families in Couva had their dreams come true when they received keys for their brand new houses. The occasion was to mark another phase in PPGPL’s HOMES project (Housing Our Most Exposed Siblings). Joan Ramroop, Indarjit Heerlal and their families are the first to benefit from this project which is funded by Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited and administered by Habitat for Humanity T&T.

Residents of PPGPL’s neighbouring communities of Pt. Lisas, Couva, Phoenix Park, Windsor Park, Dow Village, California and Claxton Bay were invited to apply to HFHTT for houses. To qualify for the houses under this project applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Own land with clear title documents; or
  • Have a long term lease beyond the repayment term; or
  • Obtain written permission from the landlord to build
  • Earn a joint family income below $4,000 and
  • Live in the communities identified

As many as 20 families are expected to participate in this project which will be completed by the year’s end. Ag. President of PPGPL, Premchand Beharry expressed deep satisfaction of his company’s efforts to alleviate the plight of some in the society by addressing a basic need for shelter during his address at the dedication ceremony of the first 2 houses.

Persons who live in the communities identified and meet the criteria mentioned are encouraged to contact HFHTT at 675-1222 as screening continues for more home partners.
