CSR Programme

Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited is committed to operating within and above legal requirements. As such, we continuously seek opportunities to excel in all aspects of our business. Our corporate social responsibility demands that we conduct our business in a manner that ensures sustainability in the broadest sense.  We demonstrate this responsibility by our good governance practices, meeting our legal and regulatory requirements, adhering to good industrial relations practice, supplying high quality products and promoting national and community development.

Our corporate social responsibility programme is built on the three pillars: social, environmental and economic. In designing and implementing policies, systems and programmes geared toward our internal or external stakeholders, we are mindful that business cannot survive in isolation.

Community Involvement

PPGPL maintains very good relations with its fenceline community, contributing to several NGOs, schools and community groups in the Couva, Pt.Lisas area.  One of the organizations we sponsor annually is Caldrac Club, (Link) a community group which has been in existence since 1947. As a result of sponsorship since 2005, the club has expanded its cricket development programme fielding 2 men’s teams and a women’s team. In addition through this club, PPGPL sponsors a cricket competition which attracts teams from several communities in the Central zone.

Caldrac Club

Founded in 1947, Caldrac Club of Railway Road California was once a vibrant sporting and cultural organization. Among the founders of the club are well known attorney and former head of the Police Service Commission, Kenneth Lalla and Dr. Mohammed Aziz, recipient of a national award.

When the club received a playground at Macaulay Park in its early days, members built a club house for cricket guests after matches. Caldrac was the pride and joy of residents and many cricketers who passed through the club moved onto successful careers in both the private and public sectors.

However like many sports and community organizations Caldrac went through some difficult years and its numerous requests for funding yielded little. In recognition of its rich community history Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited took the initiative in 2005 to inject much needed funds to promote the development of cricket and rebuild the club’s attractiveness and strength in the community. This rebirth of Caldrac Club has enabled other community groups to benefit from using its club house and playing field.

Employee Volunteerism

PPGPL was the home to eleven university students during the July- August vacation. The students from UWI and UTT received on the job training and work experience from their assignment to various departments.

Part of the students’ training included a student volunteer challenge. This initiative was the first of its kind for PPGPL and was introduced to broaden the students’ work experience and expose them to the concept of volunteerism as an aspect of corporate life.

The students’ challenge was to raise over $5,000 to cover the cost of material to repaint several classrooms at the Phoenix Park Government Primary School. The students, through a great show of team work and resourcefulness collected the funds necessary for the back to school initiative. They were further supported by employees who generously donated their winnings from the annual Curry Duck Cook Out held in August. The trainees felt a sense of accomplishment as they completed the challenge and were invited to donate the funds raised to the school principal, Ms. Lisa Ramharack.
